Come and join the award ceremony for the best MA thesis written on the representation of the Global South, including Pecha Kucha presentations of the selected students. Gundah Gundala (2013) directed by Wimar Herdanto

Gundah Gundala is an Indonesian short film showing a conversation between Gundala – a lightning powered local superhero – and a stranger about Gundala’s anxiety, since his job as a superhero is being taken by other superheroes from foreign countries.
Wimar Herdanto is a filmmaker and video artist graduated from the Department of Communication Airlangga University, Surabaya. Learn to make movies when joined Kine Klub in FISIP UNAIR. Currently teaches film and design in the Department of Communication Airlangga University, Surabaya. Incorporated and being active in the film community called Komunitas Penonton based in Surabaya, Indonesia. Also, he still producing a commercial video.
Arnoud Arps is a lecturer in Dutch Studies at the Centre for the Arts in Society, Leiden University, and a PhD candidate in Film Studies at the Department of Media Studies of the University of Amsterdam. His PhD is situated in the fields of memory studies, postcolonialism, travel studies and mobility studies, with the Dutch East Indies and Indonesia as geographical focus. Since 2019 he is an editor of Indische Letteren, the academic journal of the Working Group Indo-Dutch Literature.
